Lotte Wubben-Moy signs new Arsenal contract

Arsenal defender Lotte Wubben-Moy has extended her contract with the club until 2028. The 26-year-old, who has made 143 appearances for Arsenal having come through the club’s academy, won the club’s player of the season award in 2023-24.

This was during a time when current Head Coach Renee Slegers was the personal development coach and worked closely with Lotte during that season. Wubben-Moy’s leadership and professionalism are also seen as integral and she will form part of the leadership group.

Our understanding is that there was interest from the NWSL and Europe, with Bayern Munich holding a long term interest with the player, but Wubben-Moy wants to win with Arsenal. She is also in contention to return from injury on Sunday. She led her announcement video as creative director and wrote the script for it too.

Childhood Arsenal fan and Stoke Newington native Wubben-Moy told Arsenal.com, ‘I feel a huge amount of pride, excitement and optimism to once again put pen to paper at this special football club. Arsenal is the club I want to win with and I feel this new contract comes at a time in my career where my ambitions are matched by my abilities on the pitch. I’m determined to make this next chapter count.’

Head Coach Renée Slegers added: ‘We’re so happy that Lotte has signed a new contract. Lotte is a top defender who has shown significant progression in recent years, and will continue to play an important role as we pursue our shared goal of competing for the highest honours in the game.’

Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: ‘We’re very proud of Lotte’s journey from our academy to our first team, through to this new contract here with us. Lotte is a wonderful role model for all young players – an example of how hard work, strong values and determination are the platform for success. We know that she will continue to give all of herself to Arsenal Football Club, both on pitch and of course in her consistent support of our wider community.’

Brilliant news! I can’t even begin to imagine putting pen to paper on a new contract with the club you’ve always supported. It must feel surreal. Congrats to us – and to Lotte!

Its nice to see top players extensions on their contracts, pity that wasnt the case with viv meidema

Renée can repatriate her, Gudogan who was at Barcelona returned to his original team, City, I’m kidding.

Great news, they’ve given us the length of the contract as well 😊

Is this the club sending a message here for the youngsters coming through, that there is a pathway for the talent coming through. If Wubben Moy had moved on citing lack of playing time etc then it’s a tougher environment to convince Agyemang, Godfrey, Lia and so on this is a club that offer that first team opportunity.
This will be a very intriguing summer as the squad moves from the vision of its previous manager to it’s current one.

I am happy with Lotte’s decision, a new chapter begins

Real vote of confidence in the player and from the player in the club. I’m quite relieved, I was bracing myself to say goodbye.

Well done and thanks, LWM – there is no defender of ours that I trust more to execute a last-ditch goal-saving tackle.

Pity we have not seen more of her this season after her meteoric rise last campaign. Combo of injury and a left-footer pinching her spot I guess. At least we now know she is one of Renee’s favoured list and wasn’t simply being edged out.

Michael

Good news. LWM is an asset.

Red

Probably our best center back from a purely defensive perspective. The way she handled Bunny Shaw’s physicality on a number of occasions as well a dealing with top physical strikers in the Champions League a few times is the proof. Just needs to find that form consistently and would be in the list of world class center backs.

Of the women’s team defenders, Lotte is the one you’d pick if you were expecting an aerial bombardment from the opponents. Leah is the queen of the straight forward pass out of defence, and Lotte of the diagonal forward pass.

Really pleased that Renée wants her to stay (and not just because she’s half Dutch!) It means that she and Katie Reid are seen as long-term CB options. Though we’d like to add a younger left-footer I can’t think of one who’d be available.

Fun Gunner

My thoughts exactly!

Adrian Scott

Very happy with the news. Lotte is a first class defender and many seem to have forgotten that when Leah was out with her acl it was Lotte that held the defence together and greatly improved her ability in the long pass. She is an intelligent player that you can always trust to give her all on the pitch.
